Build Review Part 6 – Finishing Up

Last time we saw this build on the bench we were dealing with the decals. I wasn’t happy because I was left with a good bit of silvering in places. I managed to deal with the most egregious parts by over-spraying the base color. More clear coats helped a good bit too.  However, even at the point of completion of weathering it isn’t entirely eliminated.

It was now time to address the fiddly bits (landing gear, bombs, bay doors, etc.). There really is nothing significant to report here.

The landing gear align up easily and there is no way to glue them down in the wrong position.

The gear bay doors aren’t much of a problem either. However, I would suggest attaching them before the gear struts. This will make getting the struts in a little fiddly if you are to avoid knocking the doors loose, but getting the doors on with the struts in place requires a line of sight that you pretty much loose with the gear on.

I was a bit worried about the bomb bay doors being a bit fiddly to install in the open position. However, these didn’t present any issue either. Just install the actuators and the outer piece of the doors fall into place; now the inner piece will rest snugly in its position.

One thing I will note is that the instructions suggest that the dorsal turret should be the camouflage color. Pictures of the real thing seem to suggest this turret was actually black, so mine was painted such.

The only other thing left to do was to pop off the pieces that were temporarily held in place by white glue and install the guns etc.
